As soon as I heard of a Doula a few years ago I knew at my birth one day I would like to have a Doula there with us. I met Kate when I lived in Wanaka a few years ago practicing yoga at yoga ground. Reconnecting with Kate again to chat over all things birth I knew straight away that having her at our birth would be a beautiful addition with her warm, kind, nurturing presence, along with her strength, experience and pure trust in our amazing bodies. Kate is so easy to chat to, and with my partner not really knowing what a doula was, after meeting and spending time with Kate, and having her with us on our journey, he would tell anyone to have Kate with them welcoming their baby Earthside. During my birth Kate was so intuitive and knew what I needed without me needing to ask for anything, her and my partner were an amazing team. I also went along to Kate’s pregnancy yoga 8 weeks leading up to my birth - the wisdom and different relaxation techniques shared were so beneficial throughout my birth. Kate really helps you to remember and trust the beautiful dance of birth and the inate wisdom that is within us and that we are birthing goddesses!

Kate supported our whanau in the role of the doula for the birth of my second baby. I had planned a home birth which Kate was very supportive about. Kate was also my pregnancy yoga teacher and this flowed nicely into the doula work. Kate helped us write our birth plan and helped educate and empower my partner, for whom it was his first baby. Kate taught me how to use yoga for the optimal positioning of baby and therefore an easier delivery. Using the yoga through the delivery helped me be in a calm and meditative state. Kate was clear in her communication, ensuring that we understood her role fully and as different to the midwives. When the midwife I had been working with was unable to attend the birth and one didn't know arrived, it was OK because Kate was there advocating for my birth plan while giving me the emotional support of someone who knew me, my body and emotions. I found working with Kate to be incredibly empowering. She gave us confidence and assurance through all stages of the process. From dealing with my frustration when baby was 'over' her due date, to giving my partner some handy tips on how to be present and supportive through the labor and so much more! Her passion and experience with pregnancy and birth is clear. She is incredibly knowledgeable on the topics surrounding birth and I would highly recommend her as a doula.

Ed & I are so happy & grateful that Kate chose to support us throughout my pregnancy and for the birth of our beautiful baby girl, despite us living in Oamaru and her in Hawea. I entered pregnancy scared of birth and Kate had so many useful tips and knowledge to share, so that I could be ready for the big day! Not only she is a wonderful doula, but also an amazing yoga teacher! She helped me keep my body pain-free all throughout my pregnancy. Kate also helped my partner, who had to learn how to help me during birth. After meeting with Kate a couple of times, he felt confident he could assist me. Kate made me feel empowered and listened to. She was only a phone call away and always there to answer any questions I had. The day I got into labour, we called Kate and she was here within two & a half hours (she basically left Hawea straight away). She helped me so much through a tough and painful latent phase, I would not have gotten through it without her essential oils, massages rebozo and encouragement. We both highly recommend hiring Kate’s services! And if you can also attend her pregnancy yoga classes, which are so relaxing.
